Accurate, fast, no nonsense app. Posted by

Pretty impressed. Seems to blow Siri out of the water. I'm not sure if it is doing the translation on the phone or sending it off to a server but it is faster and more accurate than Siri. I'm pretty impressed. Not overloaded with features. It does what it's supposed to do, and that's it. I'm not even certain how I found this app but I quickly tested it by talking to it quickly without nuance or attention to how I was talking. It literally did so with 100% accuracy. I could ask that it tell me how much time I have left in that talking session before it times out and puts the text on the screen. Right now you only get a spinner icon that has no relationship to time talked and how much longer you have to finish your composition. It would also be nice to be able to pause, have the voice converted to text and shown on the page, and then start up again. Basically a way to do long format dictation. Aside from those small feature requests, this app is great. And those are features. As it stands, current feature set, I'm plussed about this app. In the future I hope to see more attention to long form dictation with stop, pause, start, restart, etc. having your dictation a saved to a list so you can stop one and work on another would be great. Connecting those files as plain text or markdown to DropBox and you now have storage and xfer to multiple devices. Plus, you have a dictation management application not what feels like a one off dictate a few things and move on application. For a version 1.0.x I think this is great. Hopefully we see version 1.0.x where x makes it to 1.0.5 - 1.0.9 before there is a paid/replaced update to version 2.x.

Transcribes for you! Posted by

After downloading an expensive dictation app for $16.99, I realized that it was no different than any other dictation apps. This one automatically transcribes it for you so all you have to do is copy and paste it to your case documentation then email it to yourself. You can also text short dictated notes to anyone. What a time saver! It makes a few errors such as common words that have similar sounds but different meanings such as one versus won or two versus to or too or Thai versus tie. This is very minor because all I really need to do is proofread the transcription. The only thing that the expensive app that I have bought is that it can be shared with a group automatically, and it allows for several transcripts in any given time period (I'm a consultant and need to document what was discussed after every meeting). This means they all have access to it but they also still need to listen and type it out for me. Now what I will do is use this one then email it or download it to a shared destination like Dropbox. There are no upgrade costs or ads. By the way this is a transcribed review and all I had to do was change the common sounding words referenced above. I also changed "axis" to "access." After downloading several dozen productivity apps this is the only one I took the time to review. And it was not because it sent an annoying pop-up asking me to rate it. Oh one more thing it also translates your notes to other languages so I can text my Japanese or Vietnamese friends and restaurants my notes and take out orders! Love it love it love it! Needless to say I highly recommend this app. It will save you time and it's free!

The Best Speech to Text App I’ve Found Posted by

Update 1/30/2017 It still works great. Previous Review Ever since the flaws and failures of Apple's voice dictation became apparent during my first days of owning my iPhone 6+, and then seeing zero improvements with successive iOS updates, I've been searching for a better way to convert Speech to text. Part of me wanted to believe that Nuance kept the best technology to itself. After frustrating experiences with several speech to text apps, I came across this one. When I had read through the reviews I decided it was time to give this a try. So far I have not been disappointed. The accuracy of this technology in the app is the best I've experienced. It's even better than what I experienced with nuances Dragon dictation which I had used on my PC. Of course you would come to expect that given that the speech algorithm in this app is powered by Nuance. Of course, I'm dictating this review using the app and I'm going to leave it in its original unedited form so that you can see how accurate it's transcription technology is. So you may notice a mistake here and there, but I think that overall what you will find is that the accuracy is about as real world usable as you can find.

Dictated with the app... Posted by

Of course because I'm doing review in the Apple store I'm going to dictate the actual review in the actual application now I like the app it's very responsive very fast it has really close on the fax which I like obviously the English to other language end vice versa I have really tried out much but it would be curious to see how that would work the next time I'm in a foreign restaurant that I don't speak their language. So that being said end all this dictation nonsense being at the end of it all of course I'm also just starting to dictate just to see how long I can dictate in this program before it cuts me off as other programs are done before I've seen. So one thing I'm looking to do is deathly give a good review. I want to say yeah five stars I'll give it five stars but I want to also say when it be nice if you know when I'm actually doing texting this kind of thing it actually just does it from within the application

Good app, just give it a chance to learn Posted by

I bought this app when I broke my elbow of my dominant hand last spring. I'm a piano teacher, so I needed it especially to transcribe my teaching instructions and also understand a myriad of music terminology in English and Italian. The first few days were pretty rough, and some of the learning curve was on me, but it learned remarkably quickly and after a week I was pretty pleased with how well it was recognizing my speech. After two weeks, it was fantastic! I should add: Siri rarely translates my voice correctly, no matter how well I enunciate (it's a running joke in my family--it's really that bad) and I was able to speak normally (without over-enunciation or stilted pauses) with this app. Since I couldn't use my arm for a very long 6 weeks, this app was well-used and well worth it!

Great Concept but... Posted by

This needs to be a keyboard extension. Having to open a separate app to input text is *so* iOS 7! Not a five-star app because it doesn’t blow me away, and an extension would come close to doing that. So a good solid four because it does exactly what it says it will do and it does it very well. BTW, this is not intended to be a digital transcriber for lectures, meetings, and the like. it’s clearly meant to allow the user to dictate messages — at close range — and convert the speech to text. If you want what is effectively a digital life transcriber, you’ll likely need to shell out quite a bit more money and devote quite a bit more processing power to the task. And probably use something other than an iPhone.

Excellent Start Posted by

First, the things I like. 1. It does a accurate translation of my voice to text 2. Its simple to operate (except... see below) 3. Picks up a voice from 3 feet or more, no need to put it to your mouth Now, some things that could be better. When you want to speak some more, there is no apparent way to add test, and the microphone button is gone. You must press the X delete symbol, delete the text, and then start over. I'd like the option to add text to what I've said, and perhaps edit it. Finally, saving and organizing commonly used phrases would be something I'd pay for. So its a great start, I'm going to use it, but it has lots of room to grow.

Great accuracy but 2 annoying bugs Posted by

This review is what the program actually transcribed, without manual correction. This app is far more accurate at transcribing speech than the dictation function built into the iPhone, end it doesn't cut out in the middle like the Apple functionality does. It offers many options for forwarding, copying end pasting what you've transcribed. The two biggest complaints is that it thinks the letters A-N-D spell "end," end that if your dictation is too long, the keyboard covers up the bottom portion so you can't see what you have to manually correct. And I speak very clearly and have no accent, so the "end" problem is puzzling.

One small problem Posted by

I just got this app this morning and tried it on an email. There was only one small problem – the keyboard covered up the lower part of the text so I could not see whether it was writing correctly or not. If made a few small errors but not as many as the iPhone speech to text makes. I have been having problems with the iPhone as it stops recording and gives me a spinning wheel. Very frustrating. It seems that this app is working better and does a lot more than I actually need. Translation could be very interesting.

Incredible Dictation app Posted by

I got this when it was free for kicks and without thinking, opened it up and just spoke into it. Astoundingly, it typed out everything I said with 100% accuracy!! I was amazed and then gifted this app to 4 of my friends who do not have Siri on this iPhone 4 and 3GS. They absolutely LOVE IT. Even though I have Siri, I actually use this app for dictation as much as and even more than Siri. This is the first app I have written a review for ever. Great app.

Excellent, simple, easy to use app. Posted by

I've found this app to be very easy to use and it works much better for me than Dragon. I have a friend that goes through periods of deafness due to inner-ear problems and this solves having to write things down constantly. This app has adjusted to my drawl and mumbling and usually records correctly. I'm glad I found it. Thanks to BGR for listing it in their free app of the day column.

Best speech app ever. Posted by

Absolutely love this app. It makes it so much easier to respond to text messages or emails while still doing other things. Rarely misunderstands me. I only wish it were tied to my reminders. However, I can copy what I've dictated and paste it into my reminders. It's seriously the only app of this kind that I haven't uninstalled with minutes of trying to use it.

Great! So much better than dragon Posted by

Better than the free dragon app, anyway. Very good at picking up what I actually say. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is because you can't copy it to other apps besides email, text, FB or twitter. But they say that's coming soon. Meanwhile I copy it to a text or email, then copy it again to where I want it. It'll be nice to remove that extra step.

Has great accuracy but needs a few features Posted by

This app has great accuracy, much better than Siri. Biggest downside is there's no way to save dictated files, you need to export them via email or copy and paste immediately or you will lose them. There should be a way to archive these files until you are ready to use them. Also,it should have better integration with iOS, although that is probably apples fault.

Excellent App, Needs a Few Additions Posted by

Faster and more accurate than built-in iPhone dictation. One big drawback is that the screen does not scroll down, so once you’ve filled the visible window with text, you cannot see what you are dictating. Also needs more integration with other apps; Drafts, or even iPhone’s Notes would be a good start. Both of these seem easily doable for future updates.

Actual customer review Posted by

I downloaded it a while ago, but just tested it tonight. The accuracy was impressive for short phrases - I tried to trick it by saying things like, "dishwasher lasagna spaghetti," and it was spot on. I don't know how long the accuracy continues (for example, dictating a meeting or something longer than a few sentences) but I was very impressed.

Love it ,keep going :) Posted by

I download the app to test the Arabic language, I was expecting it to fail, I mean the app but, I was disappointed in a good way!! Great job, but need to be improved, so keep going :) جربته كذا عن الحسوفه ، البرنامج قادح يا عوال

!! Please Fix Bug !! Posted by

App only worked on wireless NOT with LTE on iPhone 7 plus iOS 10.2. When on LTE got error message cannot detect network connectivity. Please fix ASAP, thanks!!! Correctly translated voice spoken into written Vietnamese words, phases, sentences, etc... amazing

Better Apps Out There by Thorough Review 2012-05-10

Nice start, but there are several other apps that do the same thing that are much more complete. For example, check out "Voice Assistant+". That app offers many options to export your dictation, but it's still not the best. If you check out the basic app "Voice Assistant" (without the plus sign), you will find all the features of "Voice Assistant+", with the addition of a microphone button in the "text edit" field so you can append more text to your original dictation. Still there are better apps then even this for dictation. Check out "Voice Dictation", the app I am using to dictate this review. This app does everything the others do with one really nice addition: You can increase or decrease the font size in the "Edit Text" field. Take a look at the extensive review I wrote there. Each of these three apps are more accurate at capturing dictation than this one, but this app is new with the potential to get even better, so I'm giving it three stars for potential. Let's see what happens in future updates!

Can't transcribe for a long time by Aaaakaiaihahwsjzakek 2016-12-13

I'd love it if this app was able to transcribe from a video interview I made that's 25 minutes long. Alas, it does not. It gives me a "cannot sync to cloud" error. I also have no clue how long it really can record for, or whether it's limited by something like local RAM or who knows what. If I did I'd be able to record in, say, 10 minute chunks or something and stitch them together. Until this information is made available in the description section or the problem is fixed I'm leaving my review at 3 stars. I spent $10 on this and I basically won't even be using it, or I'll have to set aside time and energy to experiment and figure out how long it will record for. Blegh. UPDATE: So I've been experimenting with it and I got lucky one time and it recorded/processed ~5 minutes of my YouTube video. 3 other attempts to get to 5 minutes failed at the "Processing" stage. I'm getting incredibly frustrated now. Seems like I'll have to baby it and process it every 3 minutes or so to be safe. UGHHH.

Is not integrated at all with iPhone by koop1975 2015-11-12

This would be a great app if it were fully integrated with texting and other applications. To use the application, you need to go directly into the app and record your spoken message, and once you're done you need to tell the app where you want that message to be placed. So after recording my message that I want to text to someone, I need to then click on the text icon, and then tell the application who I want that spoken text message to go to. So there are a lot more clicks involved in trying to send a simple text message via spoken word. Unless I'm missing something, I don't know how this is any better than Siri. Sure, it does recognize my speaking more clearly, but I was thinking of using this while doing other activities to create more of a hands off experience. But you have to press a lot more buttons to get to where you want to go, so it is not hands-off at all. It is actually way more hands-on than dealing with Siri's incompetence.

Recognizes speech very well but no saving or editing by Onie218 2015-11-26

This app recognizes a speech extremely well. I give 3 stars because it does what it's supposed to but does not fit my needs so I feel like I've wasted my money. 2 things that I need for my use are: -Editing so that I can add to a previous recording -saving recordings. I need a dictation app for journaling so I can speak in the evening at the end of the day and then maybe add something I forgot and not worry about copying it immediately. I'd rather, and it would be better for my needs, to go back and add to or edit my previous recording and then worry about putting my journal together later, the next day or do a few days worth at a time. Currently this app does not fit my needs and I feel like I've wasted my money. The app description doesn't clarify exactly what it does or maybe it's my fault for not realizing that if it doesn't say anything about saving and editing I should assume it doesn't.

All-around bad product by Bclayton2 2016-06-21

I really enjoy the ability to dictate to my phone and have it type out what I'm saying but this product definitely does not deliver on that promise. Couple issues first one being the ability to dictate it seems the want to start and stop when ever the hell it wants to and then all the sudden you have to go back and regain your train of thought and that doesn't work for me. It does seem very accurate when it does dictate but that's no different than any other dictation app the second problem I have with it is that the keyboard covers the vast majority of the type on the screen and the only way that you can go in there and edit your type is if you tap Area you want to make the edits then the keyboard comes up and covers it and then you can type it out hoping that you got the right type in there. If you're looking for a good dictation app this is not it I would move on.

Not Anywhere Near What I Hoped For! by Fitzworld 2015-01-03

I wanted an app to record lectures, speeches, or random pieces of dialogue from a variety of sources, whether live, TV, radio, etc., and this is NOT the solution. The accuracy is extremely poor. Further, there is a limit to the amount of speech it will record, and then it becomes virtually impossible to edit and correct, which is important because the accuracy is so poor, requiring a lot of editing. I have no idea where all these superlative reviews are coming from? I am desperate for a competent dictation app but I guess there’s nothing on the market yet. I’ll keep looking. Meanwhile, I’m glad I got this while it’s free. I would have been VERY disappointed if I’d had to pay for it...

Iiiiit's okay. by J_Pet_1 2015-12-22

I shouldn't be so harsh in my stars, because this app is trying very hard to understand what is being said. But truthfully, I was hoping for something a little better for something I paid for. It has a really hard time with anything even slightly muddled and confuses even normal clear speech to be indiscernible at some points. I was hoping to use this for interviews, but I'm finding I'm so confused by what it writes, it may not be useful. Unfortunately, it looks like this is the best autotranscriber out there at the moment.

Excellent but needs work by Neicy739 2012-05-19

I just purchased this app because I thought it was a good idea it does work as far as translating voice to text however when I send it to Facebook it posts it to my Facebook page instead of my timeline so whenever there is an update for this app if there is a way that whatever is sent to Facebook can be sent to the timeline instead of directly to the page that would be a great update. And some punctuation would be excellent as well because havin it all typed for me is useless if I have to go back thru and put in punctuation.

Not worth the price by WhoCares5000 2015-08-21

This app works just like the standard notebook with voice recognition which is already a standard with an iPhone. When I tried to record more material it does not allow me simply because it stops after a few paragraphs and forces me to save without being able to continue. There's no way this app is worth $10 especially if you have an iPhone which already has a notebook with voice recognition built it and works just as well as as this app.

No Better, Plus It Doesn't Scroll (so...worse) by ByOsmosis 2015-12-26

I wrote this review using active voice. I am speaking close to the phone in a quiet room and still you will find mistakes. This app is no better, in my considerable experience, then iPhone notes. It is also severely limited. If you intend to edit as you go or use this app for anything more then it texts or extremely short emails then you should look elsewhere. That is all I can say because I can no longer see what I am dictating to the app.

Terrible for Interviews by 345570000 2016-02-08

I got this app because I thought it would transcribe speech. Well, I am sorely disappointed, annoyed, and feel I wasted my money. First, it cuts out all the time. Second, unlike a regular recorder or the Voice App on the iPhone, it saves nothing. So if you have multiple interviews and do not send them to e-mail right away when it cuts out-- interview is totally lost.

What a short lived Apps Gone Free promotion! by 1001_apps 2015-01-22

The Apps Gone Free promotion ended in less than an hour after the issue had come out to the Apps Gone Free app. I clicked "Get" on both this version and the iPad version and the iPad version deal expired literally as I clicked "Get" as iTunes asked me for approval to pay on what was going to be a free app. No thank you.

Terrible - do not buy by Lara zzzzzzzzzz 2015-07-23

Please do not waste your money! Seriously. Don't know who these other reviewers are, but this app makes way too many basic mistakes in transcribing even simple sentences to be considered "good." My iPhone does a better job of transcribing than this app does. Wish I could get my money back!

Not what I had hoped for. by DaneGH 2015-11-29

I saw all of these reviews that said that they had been transcribed by the app. They were properly punctuated with commas and periods. I assumed that the app would handle that punctuation, but it doesn't. I don't see any clear benefit over the built-in dictation capabilities of the iPhone.

Me by Mpv1060 2012-10-24

Stupid. Waste of 4 bucks. When someone sends me a text.. In order to respond i have to exit my text messages.. Open this app then type in the person I wish to send it after i "talk to text" why not make it so it can be done from the normal text window?

One Big Problem by GWRROZ 2015-08-04

I am providing this negative review to get the attention of the company to fix the problem it has with regard to editing a longer document. Until then I would recommend people obtain the free app called Dragon dictate. Otherwise it's a great app.

Not what I needed by Create a nickname jfjfjrfn 2016-03-20

Recordation and transcription time is too short. I downloaded so I didn't have to type out very long emails but it doesn't serve my purpose. I wish I didn't spend $10. Look for something else if you are looking for the same thing

Works on one phone but not the other by antonywu 2014-09-09

The app works good but if Siri is not able to understand you, chances are this app won't either (because they both rely on Nuance). On iPhone 5, it loads just fine, but on iPhone 4, the app shows authorization error.

Very little functionality by Michael30 2016-08-03

Captures Voice and translates but that is about all. This in itself is something but the description in the App store made it sound like there is more. No support I could find. Glad it was on a free promotion.

Difficult to navigate by lyciepie 2012-12-06

Although the voice capabilities are accurate, this app freezes and doesn't allow for corrections. I've tried to contact the developer, but the app shuts down.
