Solid, Up & Coming App Posted by

This app is great. I really like the intuitive manner in which the app integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) methods. I also like the mood tracking graph. The most frequent tools I use are the journal (which functions great on its own), but also the CBT and mood graph. Other features include physical, emotional and social activity tips and suggestions that could be useful to elevate ones mood- the app offers users the opportunity to "commit" to do certain activities (which presumably motivates action/follow through). Some features I'd like to see in future updates include: 1. The ability to include photos- (some of my journal entries would be more substantive with this feature). 2. The ability to create/integrate a timeline relative to the mood graph. (When reviewing my mood graph, it would be helpful to see a 30 character label that corresponds with a sudden rise or fall of a mood; such as "Got a new car" or "Rained all day long"). 3. The ability to track multiple emotions simultaneously- (maybe this would invite excessive complexity, but sometimes I might say I'm a "7" on anxiety, although I'm a "9" on happiness and a "3" on enthusiasm"). Rolling everything up into just one mood has been challenging for me. (Perhaps users could choose to add additional emotions, without the app requiring them? Maybe this could be a paid feature?) Lastly, I'd like to point out that the app is only as useful as the user makes it- if journals are inconsistent, the mood tracking graph doesn't work as well and if the user doesn't commit to activities, then the benefits can't be tracked and/or realized. In any case, this app is really solid in its current state and has really helped me to maintain a realistic viewpoint. Strongly recommended!!

Therapy With Me 24/7 !! Posted by

With my MoodKit, it's like my therapist goes with me everywhere I go! Cognitive Behavioral Therapy makes SO much sense, & for me it's exactly what I need. Since I always carry my phone, I always have the tools I need, & the "journal," to record. The app is with me exactly at the times that I need those. It's not practical to carry my CBT books & resources with me just in case I need one of the tools: MoodKit meets this need Perfectly! The option of EMAILING my journal entries to my therapist--the Thought Checker (with self-guided CBT follow-through,) my Mood Ratings & my Activity Commitments-- is Greatly increasing the effectiveness of my one-on-one therapy, as my Therapist sees what's going on with me through the week, then we can target specific issues & behaviors. No more "fudging" about how my week went once I sit in the chair. MoodKit doesn't replace my CBT therapy, books & materials, it merely Enhances them & keeps my tools at my fingertips, & in the forefront of my efforts at behavioral changes; of my effort to Enhance the Quality of my Life. I also appreciate the other Thriveport resources, & refer to them when needed. My therapist has been recommending MoodKit to her other clients with iPhone, as well as the Thriveport resources. Thank you to Dr. Erhardt and Dr. Dorian, as well as the Thriveport team, for Tagging along with me throughout my busy days. You are in my debt, And responsible in part for my ever-increasing personal growth & happiness!!

Better than other CBT apps Posted by

The app is trustworthy and has a good interface. I had tried other CBT apps and this is by far the best interface I've used. The idea of having a journal, the CBT journals and other ideas combined is great; I like having my mood in a single location in my phone. There are some things in the app that could make it much better. The way the activities are organized is not as useful as they could be. I do not even know if having so many different activities will necessarily improve the mood of people. It is something the app uses to boast, but it is something I do not see myself using every day. The CBT can be further improved by adding steps to the point where one is challenging the unhelpful thought. The different thinking styles each affect the unhelpful thought differently, and so simply demanding from the user/patient to "Think without your thinking styles" is not useful. The app Pocket CBT does the step by step challenging successfully. It would be great to have the app integrated into Apple's Health app. iOS 7 is here already and the developers could take advantage of this!

Update: for the last few months I've been using the thought checker nearly every day, and I have noticed a change in how I respond to upsetting events, so hey, it works. Overall I like this app. The big weakness is that the mood tracker only lets you do one mood per day. Also, some of the journal questions come across as cheesy or annoying or just unhelpful. However, other ones are direct and helpful, and I've already created a couple templates of my own that I think will be useful. I like the thought checker: it's brief and convenient but also to the point. I like having the long list of suggested feelings and the option to pick more than one, and it's more convenient to have a list of distortions there rather than pulling out a piece of paper and having to go by memory when on the run. I also appreciate that there's an option to say there's no distortion but still a better way of looking at things. I've only looked at a couple of the activities but the apparent variety is impressive. And again, the convenience factor is amazing.

So thorough & evidenced-based Posted by

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but as both a mental health clinician and someone who suffers from major depressive disorder and anxiety, I'm so impressed by the practical utility of this app, first in probing the myriad ways that chronic distress undermines our real-world well-being, and second because of the myriad targeted, concrete & evidence-based strategies it suggests to flip the tables and improve our moods through simple shifts in conscious thought & action. Also love the personal commitment framework as practical strategy for real-life application. Only quibble is that the daily mood & thought journaling interfaces are clunky-looking and not nearly as intuitive as a handful of otherwise mediocre & shamelessly pricey mood tracking & CBT apps on the market. I also wished that this somehow integrated with iOS' 'health' app, which I already use for diet & activity tracking. Were developers to redress those two issues, I hesitate to speculate what I actually might pay for the result.

A Very Effective Mental Health Tool Posted by

I'm pursuing my M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Vanderbilt. We had talked about mood tracking apps in one of my classes. I decided to experiment with some, in particular to work on personal issues with anxiety. The "Thought Checker" is modeled on a standard CBT tool called a Thought Record. It is extremely effective to be able to use this tool in the moment to balance distorted, anxious thoughts, and much more convenient than paper worksheets. You can record your thoughts and feelings in a journal that could easily be shared with a mental health professional to facilitate the work you do in sessions. It offers a pin code to protect your privacy. I'm just beginning to explore the other features but they seem to be icing on the cake. This is a tool I will recommend to my clients in the future.

This is the best app for mood control. Posted by

I think that this is the best app ever for people who are bi polar or just looking to control and chart their moods. There is no aspect that has been forgotten. There is a journal there is a thought checker and there are so many options that are easy to use I can't say enough good things about it. I think after using the app and money spent was well worth it and $10 is even an acceptable price for this app although I paid five dollars it is worth 10. I wish there was someway to back up to a cloud source so I would not have to worry that I may end up deleting the app by accident or phone crash or something strange removing everything that I put in my journal. However there is the option to email what you write in the app that any time to yourself so it's sort of the same

This app is FANTASTIC!! Posted by

This app helps to track patterns of my emotions which is great for me because I have no thyroid so when my meds are off, I can become depressed or even manic. A regular thyroid is self adjusting secreting more or less hormone based on your body need. Because my meds do not auto adjust, I have to listen to my body to tell me when I need more or less hormone. A lot of the symptoms of my medicine being off are psychological or emotional & this app makes it very easy for me to detect when it's time to have a blood test and that maybe my medicine needs to be adjusted. Also, when I'm angry, it helps me evaluate the real reason I'm angry and it's easier to figure out if my thinking is a little bit skewed. LOVE this app!!!

Most expensive app I've purchased... Posted by

...and worth every penny! I just wanted a mood tracker with chart function but the thought distortion tool alone has been phenomenal in improving my moods (as well as the recording of my automatic thoughts in the journal for future reference). I like "committing" to healthy activities out of the robust list of social, physical, functional and custom choices. This has made a tangible improvement in my life. The capability to print or email everything from the thought, activity or mood chart/journal is helpful as well. The only thing I'd love is a reminder to "check in" daily via iPhone notifications...

So far so good Posted by

I use this along with Mood Journal. I use this primarily for when I freak out about something that really isn't that big of a deal to calm myself down a little bit and help myself to stop ruminating. It shouldn't be used in place if a therapist, but it's a real nice way to keep a record or your thought process do you can easily recognize when you're blowing something out of proportion. I think its a great app! $5 is kind of pricey. I have other apps that have around the same functionality that are much cheaper or free, but this app is very useful.

The thought checker alone is worth it Posted by

Needs iPhone 5 support, but still great! After reading this article about how useful an entrepreneur found it to graph his mood, I went searching for an app. Low and behold I stumble upon this. While my intentions were to track my mood I've found the Thought Checker to be ground breaking in rationalizing out my negative thoughts and calming me down. Funny thing is I use iMoodJournal for the actual logging because the interface is more visual and it has tagging. I personally don't mind using multiple apps, but if you want a one stop shop, this is it.

Amazing functionality Posted by

I'm definitely happy with this purchase. This app has very similar functions to other cognitive behavior therapy apps available; however, while it may not be as "pretty" or intuitively constructed, it has an amazing and diverse list of resources available and doesn't have an outrageous monthly fee. Further, I like the way it allows you to reframe thinking patterns and then reevaluate your feelings in order to see the benefits immediately. I can see myself continuously using this application to have more positive and stress-free thoughts.

MoodKit is Very Helpful Posted by

I have bipolar disorder and this app has helped me in two distinct ways. First I have set the reminder feature to help me track my mood multiple times each day. This gives me time to reflect on my mood throughout the day and check myself for faulty thinking that may be negatively impacting my mood. Secondly I love being able to see the graph of my mood over time. This has shown me many patterns I was unaware of before. Both my therapist and my psychiatrist love the data it provides. This app has made me a much more active participant in my own wellness.

Clunky but indispensable Posted by

I come and go from using mood kit because honestly the barebones interface is to get into. A daily dashboard showing the last time each mode was used or a launch window recommending a mode might make the app easier to engage with. However, the basic CBT principles shine through and the thought distortion mode is worth the price alone. It really helps when I hit a depressive low but I'd like something I could engage more proactively than reactively.

Fantastic 4 Those with Mood Disorders Posted by

For people with mood disorders, this app is FANTASTIC because, among reasons, it can help your psychiatrist to more precisely understand your mood history and prescribe or adjust your meds appropriately. It is not only invaluable to the psychiatrist, but also to the patient. GET THIS APP!!! UPDATE: 4/1/2016 Can't find this I the app store anymore when I wanted to add it to my new iPad Pro. Major disappointment.

Great timesaver Posted by

Prior to getting this app I would use paper and pencil, or type long text into a text writing iPhone app. It took. With this app I am able to cut to the chase and input data in the correct fields. Also I am able to view charts to track my progress. Also there are suggestions given to help improve my mood, which is icing on the cake for me. Well worth the few dollars spent for anyone that's into CBT.

I love this app, BUT... Posted by

Please port it over to the iPad. Yes, it runs on the iPad but it just makes the iPhone version bigger. I would LOVE to be able to type my journal entries on my iPad, since typing extensively on my phone is frustrating. I have several DBT apps and this one is easily the most user friendly and has the most useful tools for me. I would love it even more if I could type up my journal entries on my iPad.

Helpful Posted by

I downloaded this app in Fall 2012 and still use it now (January 2016). Whenever I'm upset, I use this app. It's like a portable therapist. It's helpful to see what thought distortions I'm using. It's helpful to identify and rate my moods before and after I process a thought and check the facts. I journal a lot, too. It's a great app. I highly recommend it.

Good for my purposes. Posted by

The MANY other features are intriguing, but I only really use the journaling function. The ability to create & use templates is great, but would be a whole lot better if it had the ability to work with formatted text (as implemented in the current iOS). At a minimum, it'd be great if the templates text appeared in bold face (for instance).

BOO! Disappointing! by NellyWetmore 2012-09-21

This app is way overrated & overpriced! I barely find this helpful at all. The Thought checker tool is frustrating. It helps you identify thought distortions, (which is cool) but doesn't explain how to go about trying to modify your thought! If someone's been thinking a certain way with distortions a long time, it takes more than a quick little blurb in a cheesy app to help them learn to fix it. I don't find the journal helpful either. The questions are generic and again not very helpful at all.. i.e.: "How can I go about changing (whatever)?" ..Well if I knew how the hell to change things I wouldn't have bought the app! Writing in a real blank journal is more helpful! The "activities suggestions" are pretty standard things you could easily find doing a basic Google search. I was really hoping this app would be as helpful as the descriptions make it sound. But all I get from this app is frustration. Only reason I'm not deleting this is because I paid for it. I want my hard earned money back! Save your money for a fun game app or some new songs in the iTunes store, that will improve your mood better than this app.

Fix this please by arkangel90 2013-02-11

Everything is perfect when it comes to this app except for writing in your daily notes in the dairy section. I like to spell check my notes and i admit i am clumsy. So on multiple occurrences i have accidentally clicked the cancel button and lost a days worth of notes. I know Some people would freak out if this ever happened to them. Thus, please add a "are you sure you want to cancel prompt" for if someone does decide to cancel there notes. It would help out because Once you say whats on your mind its hard to recreate that. Which in turn is hard to analyze the emotions in my thought process. Thank you for your time, keep up the good work!

It's great information by Eyemn 2012-07-20

I like the whole conception, and it does have a well thought out design but the one thing that leaves me a bit bummed out is the fact that it's rated for the iPad.as the app still looks like an enlarged phone app (which it is) with no retina display so it's a tad on the blocky side visually. And landscape mode would be nice for the iPad. Please don't list the app as universal and disappoint every iPad buyer out there. It's a good app, it would be great if at least some improvements went into updating it for the iPad. I'll give it five stars if I get at least landscape mode in the next update.

Great except for one thing... by dithmer 2011-10-03

I can't change my mood in the middle of the day. If I'm in a "7" mood in the morning, but in the afternoon I'm in a "4" mood, it just changes the whole day. It seems to me that a program developed by psychologists (and very well developed at that) would compensate for something like this, especially because daily mood fluctuations are a symptom of many different psychological conditions. I really like the journals and the thought sessions, and I like the mood chart too - I just wish it were more reliable. Otherwise great job!

Read about CBT and save yourself $5. by eyv 2015-11-10

Pales in comparison to other available apps. If I could ask for my money back, I would. No analytics to speak of, no real insights, just a series of tasks "designed" to help you improve your mood over time as you create helpful habits for yourself. Yes, this is probably based on sound CBT practices, but basically a checklist is not worth $5. Avoid this and look at mood analysis and correlation apps. Most of them are cheaper, or even free.

Looks like a goldmine, BUT... by soultripp 2011-07-23

WHERE is the: 1. User Manual 2. Walk-through Video? Due to the pure clarity and unbelievable helpfulness of another app company providing these with every app of theirs, I consider them mandatory, now, in the interest of ease of use and shortened learning curve. They eliminate fear! So? I can't find yours anywhere?!

Good by Jensaw30 2013-04-26

It's a good app. I mostly use it for reminders. For the other things like the journal it's time consuming and plain annoying to have to fill out your feelings to every single entry. You can't fill out a journal entry without going through the 10 questions about your mood at that moment.

Great features. Bad iPhone 6 support by Odicous 2014-10-25

I love the features in this application. However the iPhone 6 and 6+ Support doesn't exist at this time. I'll review the app at five stars when of sports my phone.
