The BBEdit of screen recording apps! Awesome! Posted by

Been using ScreenFlow since version 4, and I'm very happy with version 6.1. Quick test confirms it does what I need it to do, and is simple and elegant to use. Kudos to the developer!

Really horrible upgrade process by Iamzombieman 2016-11-22

So I’d purchased the software via the web a while back, and had version 5.0.4 crashing on my after an upgrade to Siera. The software was crashing so bad, I couldn’t get my license keys out of it prior to the upgrade, but I figured, maybe it was intelligent enough not to wipe them. It wasn’t. I was hosed. Support requires a license key to be entered before you can submit a ticket. So I’d paid the money, the upgrade worked, but everything was watermarked and I couldn’t enter a support ticket. This process seemed pretty brain dead to me, and left me in a position of not being able to export a critical project due to a severe crash and horrible upgrade experience. The software is good. it’s intuitive, and I do enjoy using it, but I may be looking for alternatives after this experience. This is the reason they’re getting a three, and that’s being very kind. The real test of a software vendor is how they handle situations like this, and they really could not have failed more completely here. I was left with a project I couldn’t export, and having to spend another $99 to get my project exported. I’m being extremely kind with this review. I’m so livid at the moment for missing my deadline due to their awful upgrade experience that I can’t even see straight.

Poor execution by radman2008 2016-09-06

I purchased this for an online presentation that was only streamed during working hours. So I needed an app to capture it so I could review it at a later time. After much review, I decided to pay for performance vs trying freeware. 1) You would think - you would think if you purchased an app for $99 for recording video online - it would include the ability to record audio - and it would be seamlessly installed at the initial download. Guess again. 2) You would think that if the app required additional software uploading or separate setup for audio, the initial download screen would force you to another download for the audio. No it didn’t. 3) You would think when you go to record your first session, that the recording setup screen - which allows you to select audio sources & complete the recording session, would have a box that says "you need to download more software if you want to record audio". BUT NO IT DOESN’T! The result? The presentation I needed to record had great video - WITH NO AUDIO!! I could expect this for freeware or cheapware that meant more work for me to do to record something. But not for $99.

Still needs a lot of work with audio by jpbreeze 2016-12-28

I just upgraded from Screenflow 4 to Screenflow 6. I can’t beleive it’s still so clunky in its audio handling capabilities. Most egregious is that in this day and age, we still can’t open the AU plugin interface and work with the plugin GUI as intended. Instead, we have to grapple with endless sliders, and in units that have no relevance to the setting of the parameters. It’s a mess, and the kind of problem that was understandable in 2008. At this point, not adding this capability is just plain lazy on the part of Telestream. In addition, the auido waveform display still isn’t resizeable enough so that you can see it taller on a large display, it still has waveform redraw problems, and still has all kinds of issues with tics and pops in playback. They also added multichannel support for audio interfaces, but it’s baffling and incredibly clunky to work with, and a great example of how NOT to implement this feature. There have been good improvements for the video side of things, but in terms of it’s audio handling, Screenflow 6 is still amateur level stuff. Too bad - I had hopes they’d address these things.

Good but needs subframe editing. by Mfen 2016-11-22

Great app if you’re recording from your computer screen and mic but if you’re using external video and audio there's one MAJOR annoyance you NEED to know about: If you’re trying to match up external audio to video, the audio will snap to frames which, if they don’t just magically line up when you first drop them in the timeline, will cause a perceptable lag and make it look like you’re lips are moving faster or slower than the audio. Needs the ability to edit subframes or nudge audio or video to make it work.

Crash - Distorted Colors - What happend to your reliablity? by Jojo91111 2016-08-22

It crashed seveal times after recording long videos and I couldn’t recover anything. I treid reinstalling and deleting everything on my computer with Screenflow attached to it. It still crashed. You waste my time and money. For $100? Don’t buy this. I have been a longtime user of Screenflow. I purchased Screenflow 4 about 3 years ago and it worked wonderfully in all cases. I decided to jump to 6 when I saw they were ending support, and this is what I get having to pay another $100… Unbelievable.

Sound cuts out - Not dependable by Dis Gruntled 2016-08-15

When I save a file my original audio and video is there. When I export the file, at least 1 time out of three, there is no audio on my exported mp4 file. I should NOT have to double check my file every time to make sure the software did it’s job the correct way. Apple you need to watch these developers closer. :-( This is for my business and Telestream is making me look bad and creating more work for me.

Forced to upgrade and lost recordings by Derrick Mitchell 2016-11-27

I hate that I was forced to pay for an upgrade from 5 to 6… and didn’t figure it out until AFTER I had lost a screen capture to the “black screen” that many are experiencing with no warning or notification to upgrade. Up until this point, I had a great experience recording and editing in ScreenFlow. But now I don’t trust it.
